Gallstones Diet Plan

If you’ve read this post you will know that I have been told I have gallstones and I am currently awaiting minor surgery to remove my gallbladder.

I’ve said a million times that I need to be healthier let’s face it most of us have.

When I was faced with the worst scare of my life ( My cesarian hysterectomy with an unknown amount of blood loss) I prayed and told whoever was listening that I promised to be a better person, I’d eat better, exercise more and try to just be an all-round better person If they just could let me get through the op!

Now I’ve survived I have not much choice to but fulfil my promise as I have had to revamp my diet due to the gallstones!

I now have to follow a low-fat diet!

It’s one thing to be told low fat but what does that mean?

Well from talking to several people and using the knowledge I have from doing a healthy eating course years ago I have devised some rules for my new healthy eating lifestyle.

  • Low Fat –  Under 10 Grams of fat in any 100g
  • Low saturated fat – Under 5g in any 100g
  • Low Sugar – Under 10g in any 100g
  • Less Processed Foods – Wherever possible Home cooked foods with fresh ingredients
  • Hydrate – Drink 2 litres of water per day
  • Plenty of fruits & Veggies – A least 5 portions
  • Protein – As I’m still rebuilding muscles from my last op protein is important to aid them rebuilding
  • Carbs – Should be whole grain, Like brown, rice, pasta, bread.

So that is my diet plan

I’m going to print it out and stick it to the fridge!

Feel free to do the same.

Leave in the comments if you have any tips for gallstone diets?

Health & Wellbeing, Pregnancy

I survived….. Just! Part 4, I’m Home well for a while.

As I’m writing this we have been home 7 weeks!  My recovery is going well but slower than I would like. I try to push myself and then end up feeling poorly so I need to learn to take it easier.

We arrived home Tuesday evening quite late. I needed to sleep and was in a little bit of pain. However, I also wanted to see the big twins.

Grandma brought them over and we all had cuddles then they went back to grandmas for the night!

IMG_3239 (1).jpg

The first few nights we slept downstairs – It just felt like too much stretching for me to get upstairs (besides I thought id be more comfy in the reclining chair I’d been used to the hospital bed that I could sit up!

While it was nice to be home I was anxious that we were now on our own! I wasn’t under constant monitoring to check for infection, or to make sure my wound was healing.

Though I did have visits from the midwife team, Who checked my wound, asked how I was.

For a week or more I was paranoid about my bowel movements worried that I wasn’t going enough or that It somehow twisted again!

The first week the furthest I walked was next door to my InLaws as she cooked almost every night!
Everywhere I walked I was still having to hold my belly.

By the end of the week, however, I had managed to do a school run & a trip to the coffee shop on the way home!

The week after however things took a turn for the worse!

Monday Morning I started with a pain in my back that slowly throughout the day radiated through to my chest and under my ribs!

It was that painful in the evening I ended up at A&E – they gave me some morphine and took some bloods. I was put in an observation bay to wait for the Dr, when he came he said that he thought it was just gastric distress and he sent me home!

Meanwhile, My mum had the 4 children.

The Next day came and after a week at home hubby had to go back into work (He had used up all of his paternity and more while we were in the hospital)  So I had my mum and Hubby’s mum on hand as I wasn’t healed enough to lift and carry. I woke with a similar pain to the night before though not quite as bad. Again by tea time, I was in agony.

I ended up ringing 111 who after I had described my pain decided to send an ambulance! After they had monitored me at home they decided to put me in an ambulance straight back to A&E.. Hubby came to me straight after work, I was still waiting to be seen at that point. Once I had been seen they took some more bloods and gave me some morphine again the bloods came back and it turns out my liver wasn’t functioning properly and was actually infected. I needed to be transferred to another hospital to see the surgical team as they don’t have a surgical department at our local hospital.  They would send for an ambulance and take me to another hospital. The one I was sent to when they found my placenta issue.

Hubby went home when I was told my ride was here. (3rd ambulance now and still no blue lights and siren)

It was midnight before I got to the new hospital,  I was given antibiotics, fluid and some painkillers had my observations taken and managed to get a little sleep!

The next day I was taken for an x-ray, as they suspected I had gallstones. They couldn’t see enough from that so was sent for an ultrasound which confirmed yup there were gallstones.

Now for some more blood to be taken to see if my liver was responding to the antibiotics.  I was told as there were gallstones in my gallbladder I was to have an MRCP which is done in an MRI scanner but they take the images of the chest area not like before when I went for my placenta.

The MRCP was to make sure none of the stones had migrated to any of the bile tubes as this could be what was causing the pain!

Unlike before they talked me through each section of the scanning process helping me to feel less anxious!

Hurray, they have not migrated. Though I am told that my best option is to have a routine operation to remove my gallbladder. But don’t worry its done under general anaesthetic, but it’s only a keyhole surgery  (Oh well that’s ok then it’s not like I’ve had two major operations in the past month or anything!)

A couple of days of antibiotics, and painkillers and I was allowed home!

I’m sent home with more antibiotics, and instructions to start eating low-fat, no grease, no spice diet! I was told I would get an appointment soon to discuss taking out my gallbladder.

Having spoke to others that have had gallstones they have recommended anything under 10g of fat in 100g, with a low saturated fat content.

I’m now feeling so much better, however, struggling to remember to take it easy – something I need to remember as I feel good one day and end up doing too much then end up feeling lousy.

I’ve now had my appointment through for early January.

Meanwhile, I have to stay on my low-fat diet!

Let’s hope when I’ve had my gallbladder removed that’s the end of my problems and I can live a fit & healthy life!

Thanks for all your support, good wishes, prayers & thoughts over the past couple of months.

Also thanks to Jessops and all the staff there! They were amazing!

Cuppa Of The Week -River Hut Surbiton

This weeks cuppa of the week goes to The River Hut at Surbiton.

I arrived at Surbiton Station last week for my day at the Handmade fair and decided as it was a nice day I would walk to the Hotel.

When the Holiday Inn was in sight I spotted Thames Ditton Marina. There was a little cafe / Bar on the side of the Marina it looked busy and quite contemporary – I decided that’s where I was going to have dinner that night!

Hubby finished work in central London and met me at the hotel. Then we headed out for Dinner.

We sat outside as it was a nice night!

Right on the riverside watching boats sail past.

We ordered dinner the staff spoke to us like we were friends, such a lovely vibe. I could have almost believed I was on holiday somewhere abroad.

SAMSUNG CSCWe ordered dinner and vowed we would go back the next day!

So now to my cuppa –

After my day at The Handmade Fair all I wanted was a cuppa! so we headed back to The River Hut!

It seemed there was a private party on and all the tables inside were reserved! One of the ladies who we had met the night before greeted us at the door. She asked if we had reserved and when we said no she said oh were booked up inside but you’re welcome to sit outside on the deck!

I really only wanted a cuppa so we ordered our tea & coffee and decided that we would also sample some cake.

We got talking to the lady who asked us where we had come from and what we were doing in London.20160916_193952 10.37.29.jpg

Then me and hubby sat with our cuppa’s and cake discussing the day and listening to some sea scouts rowing in the dark on the river.

It felt like such a great place to have a bite to eat and the deserts were amazing!

If we are ever in that area again Id love to go back for one of the live music nights!

You can find The River Hut on Facebook and Twitter or for the website click here!

I have not been compensated for this post and all opinions are my own.

Hmmm Where to next week?

Blogging, Friends

Liebster Award

Last week when I logged into Instagram I found I had been tagged in a post by The Lovely Mum but Still Me

She had nominated me for The Liebster Award Tag –

Basically The idea is to promote new Blogs. You answer a series of questions and then set your own and tag up to 11 other new bloggers to do the same.

I thought but I don’t know that many New blogs! – So i took to Facebook to find some others that would like to be nominated!

Do you know I’m glad I did I’ve now connected with some other bloggers that I probably would have not connected with otherwise.

You see the thing about blogging is the community feel of it – Especially around the parenting blogs – They are like having an extended circle of friends. Others that are going through or have gone through the same things.

  1. Write a blog post about your nomination, displaying an image of the award.
  2. Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  3. Answer the 11 questions the person who nominated you asked you in his/her blog post.
  4. Nominate 5-11 other starting bloggers who you think deserve this award, and come up with 11 questions of your own for them to answer. I’ve actually got 13
  5. List these rules in your blog post.

SO first to answer The questions I was sent:

  1. What is the biggest lesson that motherhood taught you so far?  That no matter how prepared you think you are things can and probably will turn out different to what you expected.
  2. What’s your guilty pleasure? Clean with me video’s on YouTube – I often watch them instead of actually cleaning 😉
  3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?  I always wanted to be a graphic designer but then in my final year my mum was ill and It was as if my brain suddenly forgot how to draw.
  4. What makes a great party for you? I love to host so I like to know everyone is having a good time. but ultimately a great group of friends and good food make a good party.
  5. How do you deal with your fears? I have anxiety so there are many things I fear but my “normal” fear is spiders this is generally dealt with by running away or shouting the hubby.
  6. What does blogging mean to you? I started blogging when I struggled with conceiving and suffered with insomnia It was a bit of an outlet for my emotions and thoughts. A kind of therapy. Now its much more than that Its a community that I love meeting up with other bloggers and connecting on social media.
  7. How would you describe your style? Eclectic – I don’t really have a particular style – Id like to think I’m a little but boho but I also love my jeans & jumpers really anything I feel comfy in!
  8. What can’t you live without? My Iphone – Oh and my husband and kids
  9. What is your most treasured possession? Did I just mention my Iphone 😉
  10. What do you love the most about yourself? My determination!
  11. How do you want to grow old? My husband and I often say we want to be that carefree couple walking hand in hand on the beach. To be Honest since losing a few close friends and family all around 90 years young  I keep saying If I get to 90 and are as fit and happy as they were then I’d take that!

It’s now time for me to nominate New blogs from around the interweb!

I thought it was going to be hard finding new bloggers out there but after turning to Facebook here I am with not just 5 or 6 but 13 new bloggers all eagerly  awaiting my questions 🙂

New Blogs for you to check out!

  1. Life Through Rosie’s Len
  2. Flump has two Mummies

  11. Living with Jude
  12. Bell and Bear
  13. Organised Jo

My questions to the above bloggers

  1. What or who inspired you to blog?

The Day I Met Kirstie Allsopp! – Mums Day Off

Agggghhhhhhhh, I met Kirstie Allsopp!

I actually spoke to her and she spoke directly to me.

So a little bit of background – Ive watched Kirstie on Location Location Location since it started I think! I loved her style her honestness and lets face it the spark between her a Phil is something that has everyone guessing!

Then when she started moving into the more craft related programs like fill your house for free and Kirstie’s handmade home I liked her even more.

Especially with the christmas shows where she had a go at all of the crafts she showcases.

So last year I booked my mum and myself VIP tickets the the Kirstie’s Christmas handmade Fair.

I was so over whelmed I think I had a little panic attack. There was a room of about 30 people including myself all with the chance to speak to her – I didn’t have the courage to speak then.

Early This year tickets came on sale for the Handmade Fair at Hampton Court Palace. I jumped at the chance to buy myself VIP tickets again.

I headed down to London on the Thursday afternoon.

Friday Morning arrived and it had been thundering and raining most of the night and it was still raining that morning. Damn I wish I had brought my wellies.

Anyway I grabbed an Uber to Hampton Court and lined up in the pouring rain waiting for the show to open! They were handing out free ponchos to anyone who wanted one Luckily I had my jacket!

Once inside I joined the VIP crowd to the VIP tent to get our goody bag, wrist band and complementary cuppa.

Then I headed off to the shopping tents – I cant believe the diverse range of items that were on offer from craft Kits to fabric bundles, Sewing machines and amazing handmade gifts homewares and fashions.

After I had done most of the first hall I realised it was nearly time for my first workshop – Wire flower making with Lucy Elisabeth. I really think I could take up wire work – Its a little more forgiving than say knitting or paper-craft.

The workshop was great a chance to try something you maybe wouldn’t think of doing normally.

After I had made my flower I headed back to the shopping halls to see what Christmas Gifs I could pick up!img_0949

Then off for a cuppa and lunch – The buffet style lunch looked and smelt amazing I had a ham & cheese triangle with bulgar whet salad and potato & spinach.

After lunch It was time to for Questions and answers with Kirstie – I had already got my question rehearsed – I wasn’t going to miss my chance this time even if It felt like the scariest thing in the world to me at that moment.

A few questions went by Then I stuck my hand up  her PA came to me with the mic

“Hi Kirstie, myself and a few of my friends would like to think we are very much Kirstie – In actual Fact we are more Miranda” – Everyone Laughed Including Kirstie “who is your inspiration in life?

See my video for the answer she gave because believe me – She doesn’t believe in one word answers.

After the questions she had to be dragged away by her PA as I think she would have stayed there chatting to everyone all day.

After this she got in a golf buggy and headed off to the next chat – Kirstie Talks to the Craft Council – I had booked to see this and as  a VIP you get reserved seats on the front row!

I will be posting more about the craft council chat and the work they are doing in a post early next month!

They got to a point in the chat about how craft skills are being lost and why was this then Kirstie asked if anyone had any questions my hand went up and before I had chance to think she was taking to me. I was telling her that my friends and I had joined the WI to try and learn some of the crafts that no one seems to teach anymore. At school we didn’t get Home economics, at home our mums had to work so we didn’t get homemaking skills passed down.

After this Talk I had another wader about a cuppa and a cake in the VIP Tent before the last talk of the day

Kirstie talking to Cath Kidston It was great listening to her and Kirstie having a chat as if no one else were there Cath who has now stepped down from the Cath Kidston brand is thinking about her next opportunity – She would love to go back to playing shop, She told us she loves the hype of being a shopkeeper, seeing people and the joy of other peoples shopping experience.

After this it was home time but not before I had sneaked with a group of other people into the back of the main tent to sneak a quick selfie with Kirstie.

When she saw me she said ” You did very well on the question front today” – I think what she ment was I didn’t shut up!  From being overly nervous about seeing her to I’m actually here now having a little chat and asking for a selfie!

Id love to have a cuppa with Kirstie and have a proper chat! I think I have a bit of a girl crush to be honest!

Screen Free Weekends

Screen Free Tuesday #linky

Good Morning,

Welcome to my updated screen free linky

Ok so a month has gone by and I have to say I’ve struggled with trying to dedicate weekends as screen free!

I have however found ways to cut down screen free time throughout the week!

The kids have started full-time  back to school now and that means we have a brand new routine.

The past week I have cut out tv before J & Ms bedtime instead they are having half an hour tv or tablet time when they get in from school while I prepare dinner.

Then once its dinner time that’s it. We don’t have screens in a morning either.

So at a weekend we let them have tablet time in a morning while we try to have a little lie in.

So New linky rules

  • Link up a blog post of your choice either how you have had screen free time over the past week, tips for screen free time or activities to do during screen free time.
  • Link will be live 8am Tuesday – 8pm the following Monday
  • Posts should be your own work.
  • Only one post per person please.
  • It’s only fair that we share the linky love by commenting on at least two other posts.
  • I will feature one blogger each week in my post so unplug those cables & let’s have some screen free time.

Share your posts on Twitter or Instagram using the #screenfreetuesdays  @readyforacuppa I will try to comment & retweet each one

Friends, Meet Other Mums Posts, Precious Moments

Memories Leak From My Eyes

Tonight I stood in the passageway between what used to be my Nan’s (now my mums) house and her neighbours. I thought about all the times I had played with a ball against the wall. And the times my Nan’s neighbour had come out and told me to stop banging on her wall.

It’s funny how memories catch us unawares.

Both my Nan and her neighbour now gone.

I sometimes have moments like this. Things like a smell, a memorable building, or song can bring on these memories.

Sometimes we fear those moments but they are often because of good memories of a certain person. We have to acknowledge them, acknowledge that life moves on.

Memories, Even the ones that leak out of our eyes means we have lived.

We have to remember that nothing is forever but those memories are there because we have loved someone or something!

Remember when you are making memories with your children they last a lifetime. Make them good ones.

This post first Appeared on Meet Other Mums

Meet Other Mums is a great platform for sharing stories & for meeting other like minded mums from your area!
