Friends

It’s like Internet dating through Instagram

Today I went out for breakfast. While there I spoke to a lady who was asking about the internet for the coffee shop

She had come to this particular coffee shop to meet someone she has only spoken to on Instagram.

I got to telling her that I met up with a lady in Lanzarote that I had only ever spoken to on twitter. Who I’m now friends with and meet up with when we are over there.

How funny is this world that we are friends with so many people in the digital world. That we have never met in the real world.

It must be daunting to meet a digital friend in real life as you never know if they have shown the honest side of life.

On Instagram especially you can sometimes only see the green grass of people’s lives.

I try to show the honest side of my life on every platform but I think most of us are guilty posting cropped parts of life as they get more likes & coments.

The ladies seemed to get on really well. I bet they will stay in real life contact for sometime to come.

Have you met up with  digital in real life?

Did you have a good experience? Or was it a disaster?

Leave a comment below and let me know your story.

  2. Letters to Santa – When I was young I would write my letter to santa and then we would use magic dust and put it in the fire-place where is would whoosh up the chimney and then to santa’s desk!
  3.  Christmas Crafts – I have an extensive collection of pinterest pins for Christmas crafts to do with the kids. I’m looking forward to creating things with them this year.
  4. Ride The Christmas Train – A couple of years ago we went to Nene Vally to ride the Christmas Train. This year I have booked to have Breakfast on the train too!

  7. Christmas Photo Shoot – This year I would like to take some festive photos for christmas cards to send to family! – We didn’t do it last year!
  8. Choose a real Tree – In the Village next to us there is a little tree farm I visited with a friend last year. Each year I’ve said I’d like a real tree I think this year is the year!
  9. Game Night – We have loads of games name that tune, rapidough, scene it, but we never play them anymore. I would like to invite a few friends over put away the phones order some pizza and have a game night.
  10. Trim the tree This year my plan is to let the kids decorate a little on a weekend and then re trim while they are at school.
  11. Baking – I love mince pies and there is nothing more festive than a kitchen smelling of mincemeat. along with these last year I made cranberry muffins and mini christmas cake bites. Yummy 1508188_10152372685571326_6292729507167363877_n.jpg

Cuppa Of The Week -River Hut Surbiton

This weeks cuppa of the week goes to The River Hut at Surbiton.

I arrived at Surbiton Station last week for my day at the Handmade fair and decided as it was a nice day I would walk to the Hotel.

When the Holiday Inn was in sight I spotted Thames Ditton Marina. There was a little cafe / Bar on the side of the Marina it looked busy and quite contemporary – I decided that’s where I was going to have dinner that night!

20160915_161400.jpg

Hubby finished work in central London and met me at the hotel. Then we headed out for Dinner.

We sat outside as it was a nice night!

20160915_175742_1.jpg

Right on the riverside watching boats sail past.

SAMSUNG CSC

We ordered dinner the staff spoke to us like we were friends, such a lovely vibe. I could have almost believed I was on holiday somewhere abroad.

SAMSUNG CSCWe ordered dinner and vowed we would go back the next day!

So now to my cuppa –

After my day at The Handmade Fair all I wanted was a cuppa! so we headed back to The River Hut!

It seemed there was a private party on and all the tables inside were reserved! One of the ladies who we had met the night before greeted us at the door. She asked if we had reserved and when we said no she said oh were booked up inside but you’re welcome to sit outside on the deck!

I really only wanted a cuppa so we ordered our tea & coffee and decided that we would also sample some cake.

We got talking to the lady who asked us where we had come from and what we were doing in London.20160916_193952 10.37.29.jpg

Then me and hubby sat with our cuppa’s and cake discussing the day and listening to some sea scouts rowing in the dark on the river.

SAMSUNG CSC

It felt like such a great place to have a bite to eat and the deserts were amazing!

If we are ever in that area again Id love to go back for one of the live music nights!

You can find The River Hut on Facebook and Twitter or for the website click here!

I have not been compensated for this post and all opinions are my own.

Hmmm Where to next week?

Autumn is Coming – Finding Hygge

Hi All,

Thursday is the first day of autumn and for once I am ready for it.

20160919_135305_LLS-2.jpg

I am ready for the jumpers and boots and scarves. I’m ready  to take the kids jumping in puddles. I’m ready for long Sunday walks in the woods to collect pine cones for crafting.

In previous years I have suffered more with my mental health in the cooler less sunny months. I’m not sure It’s as bad as seasonal effective disorder but I do feel more anxiety.

So this year I am preparing for the duller days in advance. So far I have bought a new bulb for my lumie light so that I can wake to a sunshine simulation even when the mornings are dark.

I am filling my cupboards with vitamins and I am going to make an effort to get outside even in the rain!

A couple of weeks ago I bought a book all about Hygge  (pronounced Hue-Gah)- The Danish are the happiest nation apparently yet they have the longest winter days. however they embrace the dark and fill it with hygge.

I have set my self the intention to live a hygge Autumn/ Winter – Embracing the darkness filling it with cosy things!

SAMSUNG CSC

I have set up a Pinterest board to help me find inspiration and I have already reorganised my living room to a more cosy layout.

So what is Hygge?

Well there is no direct translation Hygge Is a noun, its thought to mean a warm and fuzzy feeling, cosyness and general feeling of inside warmth.

What are the main points to consider when trying to embrace Hygge?

Lighting – Low level warm lighting. Think fairy lights, toned down lamps, and more often candles.

Blankets – Warm comfy blankets, throws, something you can throw over you when it is a little chilly outside.

Activities – Non screen activities like needle craft, board games, telling stories, singing. to name a few.

Singing – This is thought to be an important part of Hygge. Singing releases endorphin’s making you feel good. as well as a whole host of other benefits.

Friends / Family – Although hygge can be embraced on your own why not grab a group of friends and or family and embrace together.

Food – Autumnal style food is considered hyggelig think soups, stews, crumbles, hot chocolate, mulled wine or cider.

So now I have armed myself with the principles of Hygge I will be trying my best to make these colder months feel more Hygge.

I am not an expert this is just my opnions on hygge.

Memories Leak From My Eyes

Tonight I stood in the passageway between what used to be my Nan’s (now my mums) house and her neighbours. I thought about all the times I had played with a ball against the wall. And the times my Nan’s neighbour had come out and told me to stop banging on her wall.

It’s funny how memories catch us unawares.

SAMSUNG CSC

Both my Nan and her neighbour now gone.

I sometimes have moments like this. Things like a smell, a memorable building, or song can bring on these memories.

Sometimes we fear those moments but they are often because of good memories of a certain person. We have to acknowledge them, acknowledge that life moves on.

Memories, Even the ones that leak out of our eyes means we have lived.

We have to remember that nothing is forever but those memories are there because we have loved someone or something!

Remember when you are making memories with your children they last a lifetime. Make them good ones.

This post first Appeared on Meet Other Mums

500+ women camping in the forest  – can only mean one thing.

Yes two weekends ago it was The unofficial WI camp “Tea & Tents”

For months us young uns of our WI have been planning for our 3 night camping trip to Walesby scout camp with over 500 other members of The Woman’s Institute.

This year Tea & Tents is in its 3rd year and our 2nd year of attending.

Last year we were newbies not only to Tea & Tents but also to the WI. This year we sort of knew what to expect.

We put our names down to volunteer at a slot over the weekend.

We ordered our merchandise.

20160722_212407_1daddys day.jpg

And then on the Friday we packed up my VW and off we went.

We arrived not long after 6pm,  the camp opened at 5pm yet there were already loads of camp areas already set up with pretty bunting and lights.

20160722_210256_2daddys day.jpg

We finally found a space to park Delilah ( my VW)  And set to putting up our tent and making our area look pretty .

Then we changed into our new T-shirts and grabbed our picnic and headed over to the main marquee to listen to the “camp opening meeting” unfortunately we were only able to listen from outside as it was already full inside.

We sat and listened through the canvas while we ate our picnic.

There were still people arriving as it was turning dark.  A few of us went to help one lady set her tent up as she was on her own and had arrived in the dark with the biggest tent on site I reckon.

Afterwards we headed back to the tent and snuggled down for the evening.

Saturday we got up and after we had made breakfast & had a Cuppa We headed to put or names down for some of the workshops. Unfortunately by the time we arrived our first options were already full up. So me & S decided to go for a facial.

After a late lunch it was time for the market place.

Lots of lovely stalls selling craft packs, homemade items, jams and cakes.

While a couple of our group went to do their volunteer slot I ordered pizza for us all.

We were going to join the camp fire but we just ended up chatting and made a little fire in the BBQ to have our own little bonfire. We even toasted some marshmallows.

SAMSUNG CSC

Sunday  morning was my volunteer slot. I was in charge of the photo booth with another lady but it seemed after Saturday night 9.30 was too early for anyone to want their photos took.

When I had finished my slot I rejoined my friends who had brought me over a bacon buttie and we lined up to get our names on a workshop. Myself and H booked onto vintage curtain ring brooches and S & E booked onto square weaving.

SAMSUNG CSC

Before our workshops started there was time for a bit of yoga.

In the afternoon we had booked a dip in a hot tub. By the time it was our slot it was quite windy and the hot tub didn’t feel very hot!

20160724_180503_2daddys day.jpg

While in there we got talking to one of the *squirrels she was telling us about her own WI in London. She also gave us a bit of inspiration for our position in our own WI.

By the time we got out I was shivering and couldn’t seem to get warm.

Sunday night was the Big Quiz.

We cooked some jacket potatoes warmed some beans and took them up to the quiz.

SAMSUNG CSC

We did quite well in the quiz. And we’re quite impressed with ourselves. Especially on the Tv themes round.

There was one theme that hit with all of us. If I just say “In west Philadelphia born and raised on a playground is where I spent most of my days…..” Leave in the comments below if you know what this is. 🙂

A marquee full of women singing was one of the highlights of the weekend!

Monday morning came and I actually forgot it was my birthday! Until I came out of the tent and the E had put some gifts out on my chair. 🙂

SAMSUNG CSC

Everyone woke up and we slowly took down our home for the past 3 nights.

We got bitten to hell on camp and there were a couple of things that were a bit rubbish but all in all the camp was amazing. A great time to get to know one another and to meet new friends.

A chance to take part in activities you might not take part in any other time!

We just found out yesterday that the organisers are taking a break in 2017 but the camp will be back in 2018 and I for one am looking forward to doing it all again!

It seems I didnt take as many photos as I thought! I must try better next time!

*squirrel – one of the volunteers that help in the running of the event. Making sure the other volunteers know what they are doing and generally making sure the camp is going ok.

Brit Mums Live, Days Out

Brit Mums Live 2016 #BML16

Hello everyone,

At the weekend I attended an event held at The Brewery in London called Brit Mums Live

If you havent heard of Brit Mums Live, the event is a conference for bloggers to attend workshops, meet other like-minded bloggers, listen to chats from inspirational  people, to gain inspiration and to connect with brands!

The event for me started on the friday evening with the fringe event – A party held at The Holiday Inn Camden Lock.

Friday Evening

The setting was amazing and the fizz was flowing though my nerves were high! I entered the room with My Hubby who I took for “moral support” As we walked in I met Susanna and Jennifer who asked us to make ourselves name badges and grab a glass of something.

There were waitresses handing out nibbles and they were delicious.

SAM_8672daddys day.jpg

I put my nerves to the back of my mind and after staring at people’s chests to find out who they were and where they were from I approached a couple of bloggers who I knew from following them.

I still felt very nervous even though I had spoken to a few other mums and sneaked out before the end.

Saturday Morning

IMG_9334daddys day

Saturday I awoke at 7.45am Registration was at 9am and it was 15 minute walk away I grabbed a shower and my breakfast bag got dressed and we still arrived by 8.45. Though I hadn’t had a cuppa.SAM_8692daddys day.jpg

When we had registered and got our badges and  were greeted by refreshments; tea, coffee, pastries and more.

It was then time to grab a seat ready to start the day.

We found a table and listened to  Susanna and Jennifer give their opening speech followed by a Poem written and read by Kirstie Pelling from Poet in Motion .

SAM_8698daddys day.jpg

Next up we had a very emotional and inspiring keynote from Anne-Marie Cockburn – Author of 5742 days. I had tears throughout her speech yet found it truly uplifting to thing that this lady has gone through such an awful thing to happen but has chosen to continue through the trauma and use this to inspire others!

To follow Ann-Marie must have been daunting but Julie Creffield  from the blog Too Fat To Run managed to do this with ease as she explained how she got into running from only being able to run for 20 seconds to completing several races including marathons.

After these first few speakers we had an icebreaker game of Pass the Parcel – This year was the BritMums Live 5th Birthday so the whole event was geared around that.

On our table Kate from Baby Routes won the prize, an amazing pendant from Merci Maman

By quarter past 10 it was time for another cuppa and a head to “The Hub” to checkout the brands and mingle with some bloggers. Through to the “MAM lounge” to listen to a talk from Nigel Camp – The Video Effect about storytelling and Storyboarding while grabbing a cake then Back upstairs for a talk about Travel Blogging from Steve Keenen – Travel Perspective, Nienke krook – The Travel Tester, Alastair McKenzie – Travel lists, Susanna Scott – Brit Mums & A Modern Mother And Cathy Wilson – Mummy Travels.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I found the talk interesting however I’m not sure I learnt anything relevant for me!

Just one more workshop YouTube – collaborating and Growing your audience with Kate Rushworth then it was lunch time.

Lunch was a chance again to connect with brands and catch up with fellow bloggers during this time I met up with Sally from MeetOtherMums.com – I have recently become a regular blogger on her site and she introduced me to some other regular bloggers that I knew by their blog name!SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

During the lunch break I spoke to Martin Dorey – Author of The CamperVan Cookbook and star of BBC’s One man and his campervan who made me a simple tiramisu  ideal for making on camp.

IMG_9358daddys day.jpg

After lunch There were just two more sessions First up Creation Inspiration  with Sophia Bush – WarehouseHome, Elizabeth Sellers – Rosalilium And Anna Whitehouse – Mother Pukka.SAM_8762daddys day.jpg

I have to say Anna of Mother Pukka was amazing. Her energy and style is infectious!

The last session of the day was with Cherry Menlove – The Little Book Of Peace chatting to us about finding peace & power in blogging. This lady I could listen to her for ages – after having miscarriages and then her husband being diagnosed with cancer she found writing gave her the peace she needed to come through the other side of her circumstances.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

She also has boy / girl twins who are 6 so maybe that’s why I felt so in awe of her.

I’m defiantly going to buy her book.

The last speaker of the day was a chat with Cherry Healey – Author of Letters to My Fanny.SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

She was very funny and had most of the audience in stitches. After she had shared some of her “woman Moments” She turned to the audience to ask if anyone had any “woman Stories” Some people really went above and beyond sharing their stories – Lets not forget the Wine Cork Story!

The last part of the day was The Bloggers Key notes some with a couple of emotional stories, a video & a parody I urge you to go and check these out!

Last part of the day was filled by the BIBs (Brilliance In Blogging) party Sponsored by Kate & Mim Mim & Asda.

There was also a chance to sample the birthday cake made by Konditor & Cook. This was delicious.SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Then The BIBs Awards presented by Carol Smilie.  There were lots of wine however a lot of bloggers seemed to leave before this I assume to catch trains and get home to their little ones. The full list of winners can be found here.

The Day ended with dinner  that had been organised by one of the bloggers

We went to Pizza Express – this was a great chance to get to know some other bloggers a little better.

I would just like to say thanks to everyone who made me feel welcome over the weekend.

I am looking forward to the next event so I can meet more of you!

Friends, Precious Moments

My Precious Moments #TasteLikeThisFeels

So Channel Mum & Cadbury are running a competition with a chance to win a one of 5 digital cameras and a box of Cadbury’s dairy buttons.

IMG_8888

Here is my top precious moments.

  1. I love having a snuggle in bed with my twins and then when they have fell asleep the feeling I get when I pick them up to move them and they put their arms around me tightly and snuggle in. Then I lay them in their own bed and they say Thank you Mummy I love you.
  2. Being lost in my children’s world even if only for the moment. Getting down to their level and playing with toys or doing some drawing. I totally forget the to do list and my worries and we just play. I follow their imagination and they help me regain mine! I just love it.IMG_8675
  3. I have recently joined you tube and one of the reasons is my stepson – Although we don’t have as many special moments we have found something that is a common ground for us! He is a teenager so often doesn’t interact with anyone let alone me! So If I ask him for help with something to do with cameras or YouTube related it often gives us a shared moment!
  4. Our twins are constantly growing up and witnessing a proud moment with my husband really connects us! It can be that Jake has been given an award at school or that Melody has just learnt to spell a couple of words. I Know I look at him and he looks at me with pride. Proud that we made those children together!
  5. Finally we have a brilliant group of friends that we only met after we had our children so our friendship is only 3 years old. However in this time we have shared  many moments together from us girls all going camping together to watching all four of our children playing together without squabbling!

These moments I’ve mentioned above often hit me by surprise and bring me to tears! Other times they don’t register until afterwards.

They are moments that build who we are as a family and moments that I hope my children will remember fondly.

They are definitely moments I want to treasure forever – Children don’t stay that way long and we have to make the most of these precious moments because before too long we wont be able to pick up our sleeping child from our bed and I’m sure they wont hug as tightly.

Friends, Health & Wellbeing

“I’ll be there for you Cause you’re there for me too”

I’ve never been very good making friends, however I have picked up a few along the way.

IMG_6433

I have friends now and they are the most valuable group of friends I’ve ever had.
There are friends that I met in school and although we don’t talk or see each other every day I know they are there and they know I am here if we need each other.
There are friends I made after school the ones I made through work the ones that helped me in tough times and have seen me at my worst but yet still let me be a part of their lives.
There are friends I’ve really only just met but yet have been through so much together, hope we will be friends for a very long time to come.
There are friends that I’ve not yet met or maybe I’ve already met but we just don’t know we are friends yet (this has happened in the past)
And there is one friend who I’ve known most of my life and who I’m now married to.IMG_6772
Friendships aren’t always easy. There are tough times. There are times when you are close to hating each other.
But friendships are so important.
Here are my top 5 of friendship
1. Tough times – I’ve been though some unpleasant times (Anxiety, depression, grief, jealousy.) My friends have listened, hugged, cried with me, and brought me tissues and flowers to cheer me up.
2. Good times – You remember that time when….. Those times when I’ve laughed so hard I’ve cried my friends were with me! Hey  of them is even the cause of the laughter.
3. Confidence – Some of the friends I have and have had made me feel like I could do anything. They have given me the confidence to try new things, to go to new places and to be the person I want to be.
4. Advice – As parents sometimes we struggle with day-to-day I often turn to my friends for help when I’m struggling with something.
5. Be there. – Friendship also means I am there for my friends when they need me. I don’t judge don’t mock and can also be there with the tissues and hugs and flowers if need be!  I can also make copious amounts of tea.

I have lost friends along the way too. Some times it’s for the best. Sometimes we have friends that can be harmful to our self-esteem.

I know there are going to be more tough times in our lives, that’s life but I have friends now who I can turn to in those times and who can make the good times great so the bad times don’t seem so bad.

IMG_1100
Thank you to all of my friends for joining me in my life and letting me into theirs.
