Topsy & Tim Back to school book *Review*

If I remember back to my school days I remember some of my favourite books were the Topsy & Tim books.

I even had twin dolls.

So when I was blessed with my very own Topsy & Tim I started them watching the series on TV and bought any books I could find!

A few weeks ago I was contacted to ask if I would like to review a copy of the Topsy and Tim learning books from Ladybird. I jumped at the chance.

My twins started full time school in September and they are currently starting work on a phonics program called read write inc.

When I picked up these books to go through them with my two I was pleased to see they actually work hand in hand with their school work.

The first spellings book is great for handwriting as well as learning sounds.

J is not normally interested in writing but even he found this book fun. He even sounded out some of the words I thought he may struggle with.

It’s a great little book and it’s wipe clean so both children could have a go and they can do it over and over again!

The Topsy & Tim first words book has a little more advanced words in than we can recognize  at the moment but we still had fun sticking in the stickers.

M enjoys learning and loved guessing words by the first couple of letters.

The books are designed in a way that school children can relate to when first starting school. Within them are activities revolving around getting dressed, starting school and making friends. Daily school routines like lunch & lining up!

In the package we also received a Peppa Pig book – Peppa Pig – Going Swimming.

The book is designed for children just starting to read.  There are a few words that the children can sound out and a few words mine knew anyway like mummy & daddy.

All the Topsy and Tim books can be found online at https://www.penguin.co.uk

There is also a Topsy and Tim start school app that can be found in the App Store.

If your little ones are starting school soon or have just started I would recommend these books.

I was sent the books in exchange for a review. All the opinions however are my own.

Cuppa Of The Week -River Hut Surbiton

This weeks cuppa of the week goes to The River Hut at Surbiton.

I arrived at Surbiton Station last week for my day at the Handmade fair and decided as it was a nice day I would walk to the Hotel.

When the Holiday Inn was in sight I spotted Thames Ditton Marina. There was a little cafe / Bar on the side of the Marina it looked busy and quite contemporary – I decided that’s where I was going to have dinner that night!

Hubby finished work in central London and met me at the hotel. Then we headed out for Dinner.

We sat outside as it was a nice night!

We ordered dinner the staff spoke to us like we were friends, such a lovely vibe. I could have almost believed I was on holiday somewhere abroad.

SAMSUNG CSCWe ordered dinner and vowed we would go back the next day!

So now to my cuppa –

After my day at The Handmade Fair all I wanted was a cuppa! so we headed back to The River Hut!

It seemed there was a private party on and all the tables inside were reserved! One of the ladies who we had met the night before greeted us at the door. She asked if we had reserved and when we said no she said oh were booked up inside but you’re welcome to sit outside on the deck!

I really only wanted a cuppa so we ordered our tea & coffee and decided that we would also sample some cake.

We got talking to the lady who asked us where we had come from and what we were doing in London.20160916_193952 10.37.29.jpg

Then me and hubby sat with our cuppa’s and cake discussing the day and listening to some sea scouts rowing in the dark on the river.

It felt like such a great place to have a bite to eat and the deserts were amazing!

If we are ever in that area again Id love to go back for one of the live music nights!

You can find The River Hut on Facebook and Twitter or for the website click here!

I have not been compensated for this post and all opinions are my own.

Hmmm Where to next week?

Mums Day Off Hotel Stay – Holiday Inn Kingston South.

Good Morning everyone.

Last week I headed out to London for Kirsties Handmade Fair at Hampton Court Palace. It’s quite a way to travel just for one day so as Hubby works in the centre of London we decided to book a hotel there.

So I searched through some nearby hotels through Booking.com and came across the Holiday Inn Kingston South – I have a fondness towards Holiday Inn as we actually got married in one at Doncaster – Warmsworth Hall.

So I booked two nights  at the riverside hotel.

I arrived around 2pm and checked in. The lady behind the reception was quite helpful and gave me my room key told me that Breakfast was included with my booking. breakfast between 6.30am and 9.30am – Great for me as I needed to be up and out by 9am for the Handmade Fair.

Anyway I head up the lift to my room and swipe my card The executive room is great king sized bed – Balcony overlooking the river – Although the river is across a busy road. I was so tired and hot from my journey down I hung up my clothes and jumped in the shower Then I sat on the balcony with a cuppa, some complementary snacks and I did a little blogging  work (its free WiFi) while I waited for my hubby to arrive from work!

A side note – The WiFi is free and seemed quite good on the Thursday afternoon while I was blogging however by the time we had got back from dinner although the signal was fair the WiFi seemed unreliable and I ended up tethering my 3G phone to my laptop to use it!

That evening I had used all the teabags and I really needed a cuppa before bed so we came in from dinner and asked at reception – They gave me more milk and more tea bags!

We watched a bit of TV before we fell to sleep

The next morning came with a thunder-storm. If I hadn’t been going to see Kirstie that morning I would have stayed in bed most of the morning So much more comfy than our bed at home. and no one demanding Peppa pig or paw patrol on!   We headed down to breakfast – Buffet style with fruit & yogurt, cereal, porridge or full cooked english.
