Memories Leak From My Eyes

Tonight I stood in the passageway between what used to be my Nan’s (now my mums) house and her neighbours. I thought about all the times I had played with a ball against the wall. And the times my Nan’s neighbour had come out and told me to stop banging on her wall.

It’s funny how memories catch us unawares.

SAMSUNG CSC

Both my Nan and her neighbour now gone.

I sometimes have moments like this. Things like a smell, a memorable building, or song can bring on these memories.

Sometimes we fear those moments but they are often because of good memories of a certain person. We have to acknowledge them, acknowledge that life moves on.

Memories, Even the ones that leak out of our eyes means we have lived.

We have to remember that nothing is forever but those memories are there because we have loved someone or something!

Remember when you are making memories with your children they last a lifetime. Make them good ones.

Anxiety, major events, avoiding the news!

There are some days that you just remember like yesterday.

One is the morning that news broke of Diana’s death – my firmed and I had been out the night before and stayed at another friends house over night. We woke to the news. “Diana princess of Wales has been killed in a horrific car accident.”

We were a little in shock were we still drunk. – no. Unfortunately the news was true. Those boys left without a mother. They were only young. Just a little younger than myself.

The other is when the planes hit the twin towers of New York. – The trade centre towers. As usual my mum and I had been arguing, I’m not sure what this was about but I ended up leaving in a bad mood and went to my aunts. When we arrived my uncle had the tv on with the news that shook the world. A plane has struck one of the towers. And right there in front of our eyes as the report broke another plane struck the other tower!

News like this unfortunately nowadays makes me fall into anxity and I end up worrying for days.

My husband travels the world with his work and when he’s not travelling he’s in London. We now have two children together and I worry about the fragility of life. More than I should.

It’s hard being a part time lone parent.  It’s hard being a wife to someone who travels so much for work in a world where because of social media, and the hype around terrorism the world is just a bit more scary now I’m a grown up!

Do you remember where you were on the days that major events around the globe happened?

It’s odd how our brains can remember the feels, sights & sounds of days like this but sometime I struggle to remember what I went upstairs for!

So what do we do now?

We take time to remember those affected by such tragic days we remember on  anniversaries but we live ther rest of the time. We can’t live in fear. We strive to be strong for those left behind. We help each other make a better world.

To those gone. Thankyou for the memories.

To those grieving. Tomorrow is a new day and you will get stronger.

To the rest of us. Smile, help, love, & be grateful.
Thanks for reading

Nina.

Me Time for Mum- #AD

In July I attended Tescos Christmas in July  event. While I was there I called in to Focus PR’s event too. At the event were a number of different company’s some I’ve heard of before some I had never heard of but liked the sound of them. one of these latter was a company called Conscious Water.

IMG_8679daddys day

Conscious water make water enhancers these are to be enjoyed while you take a moment. They don’t claim to have healing powers it’s all about the flavour and the experience.

Give yourself 5 mindful minutes

Pick the aspiration you need, take a few deal breaths then Grab a 250ml glass of water and  simply fold the sachet in half over the glass and the essence will drop out of the bottom. Give it a stir and enjoy the moment.

There are several essences to choose from

  • Serenity – ”

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

    Reinhold Niebuhr

  • Sweet Dreams –

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them”

    Walt Disney

  • Clarity –

“A lack of clarity could put the brakes on any journey to success”

    Steve Maraboli

  • Happiness –

“Happiness is not something ready-made it comes from your own
    actions”.

    The Dalai Lama

  • Love – ”

Where there is love there is life”

    Mahatma Gandhi

  • Rejuvenation –

“We must always change, renew, & rejuvenate ourselves, otherwise we harden”

    Goethe

Each one is blended with flower essences that are specifically chosen to help create the above aspiration.

The aspirations are safe for children to drink to as the only contain natural ingredients.  When I spoke to one of the  team at the event they also told me that they are soon to bring out a range specifically for children. To help them concentrate on study, sleep better and more.

Conscious Water can be bought directly from the company for further information please head on over to their site for more information.

Family Date Night – Roof Top Starlight Cinema – Lanzarote

Hi All,

A couple of months ago I spotted on someone’s Facebook page an article about a new roof top cinema in Lanzarote where we would be going on holiday a few weeks later. It looked amazing, with films such as Mama Mia, Enchanted & the new die-hard film.

Last week was our holiday and we headed to Puerto Del Carmen and the shopping Centre – Biosphere to have a look at the Cinema,

We booked tickets for a week’s time to see Enchanted which was the only film really suited to J & M, While we were there we had an ice-cream just outside the cinema area. Where you can sit and have a drink & snack either in the day or before you film. There is also a 6D Cinema experience at the rooftop. Although we didn’t go this time we have been to another one on the island.

For me & Hubby we booked a deal where you get entry, popcorn and a drink for just 20euro the popcorn came in quite a big tub so we had one tub and J & M had the other.

On the day we arrived early to get a good seat, it was a good job we did as it soon got busy! The seating area is at the top of the shopping center with views over Puerto Del Carmen and out towards the sea.

As we were early we had a bit of food from the Starcaf before the film. There are Panini’s, cocktails, beer, sweets, cakes and of course popcorn. I had a cheese & Ham croissant. Which was delicious.  There is even a service button on the tables so that you can order drinks and snacks throughout the film. M kept pressing ours by accident.

SAMSUNG CSC

Soon after the sun had set headphones were handed around enabling you to listen in English or Spanish.

The film then started and J & M snuggled down with the blanket and cushion that are provided on each seat.

The film ended and we J had fell asleep & M was about to so we scooped them up and as we left they were given a balloon each.

I loved our Family date night at the Starlight Cinema and I’m looking forward to our next trip to Lanzarote So that we can go again.

If you are visiting Lanzarote anytime soon I would recommend an evening at the rooftop Cinema.

You can find details of it here.

This post was written without compensation, payment or discount.

The views are entirely my own.

500+ women camping in the forest  – can only mean one thing.

Yes two weekends ago it was The unofficial WI camp “Tea & Tents”

For months us young uns of our WI have been planning for our 3 night camping trip to Walesby scout camp with over 500 other members of The Woman’s Institute.

This year Tea & Tents is in its 3rd year and our 2nd year of attending.

Last year we were newbies not only to Tea & Tents but also to the WI. This year we sort of knew what to expect.

We put our names down to volunteer at a slot over the weekend.

We ordered our merchandise.

20160722_212407_1daddys day.jpg

And then on the Friday we packed up my VW and off we went.

We arrived not long after 6pm,  the camp opened at 5pm yet there were already loads of camp areas already set up with pretty bunting and lights.

20160722_210256_2daddys day.jpg

We finally found a space to park Delilah ( my VW)  And set to putting up our tent and making our area look pretty .

Then we changed into our new T-shirts and grabbed our picnic and headed over to the main marquee to listen to the “camp opening meeting” unfortunately we were only able to listen from outside as it was already full inside.

We sat and listened through the canvas while we ate our picnic.

There were still people arriving as it was turning dark.  A few of us went to help one lady set her tent up as she was on her own and had arrived in the dark with the biggest tent on site I reckon.

Afterwards we headed back to the tent and snuggled down for the evening.

Saturday we got up and after we had made breakfast & had a Cuppa We headed to put or names down for some of the workshops. Unfortunately by the time we arrived our first options were already full up. So me & S decided to go for a facial.

After a late lunch it was time for the market place.

Lots of lovely stalls selling craft packs, homemade items, jams and cakes.

While a couple of our group went to do their volunteer slot I ordered pizza for us all.

We were going to join the camp fire but we just ended up chatting and made a little fire in the BBQ to have our own little bonfire. We even toasted some marshmallows.

SAMSUNG CSC

Sunday  morning was my volunteer slot. I was in charge of the photo booth with another lady but it seemed after Saturday night 9.30 was too early for anyone to want their photos took.

When I had finished my slot I rejoined my friends who had brought me over a bacon buttie and we lined up to get our names on a workshop. Myself and H booked onto vintage curtain ring brooches and S & E booked onto square weaving.

SAMSUNG CSC

Before our workshops started there was time for a bit of yoga.

In the afternoon we had booked a dip in a hot tub. By the time it was our slot it was quite windy and the hot tub didn’t feel very hot!

20160724_180503_2daddys day.jpg

While in there we got talking to one of the *squirrels she was telling us about her own WI in London. She also gave us a bit of inspiration for our position in our own WI.

By the time we got out I was shivering and couldn’t seem to get warm.

Sunday night was the Big Quiz.

We cooked some jacket potatoes warmed some beans and took them up to the quiz.

SAMSUNG CSC

We did quite well in the quiz. And we’re quite impressed with ourselves. Especially on the Tv themes round.

There was one theme that hit with all of us. If I just say “In west Philadelphia born and raised on a playground is where I spent most of my days…..” Leave in the comments below if you know what this is. 🙂

A marquee full of women singing was one of the highlights of the weekend!

Monday morning came and I actually forgot it was my birthday! Until I came out of the tent and the E had put some gifts out on my chair. 🙂

SAMSUNG CSC

Everyone woke up and we slowly took down our home for the past 3 nights.

We got bitten to hell on camp and there were a couple of things that were a bit rubbish but all in all the camp was amazing. A great time to get to know one another and to meet new friends.

A chance to take part in activities you might not take part in any other time!

We just found out yesterday that the organisers are taking a break in 2017 but the camp will be back in 2018 and I for one am looking forward to doing it all again!

It seems I didnt take as many photos as I thought! I must try better next time!

*squirrel – one of the volunteers that help in the running of the event. Making sure the other volunteers know what they are doing and generally making sure the camp is going ok.

Traveling with Twins- Glamping at Finca de Arrieta Lanzarote.

Well last Thursday we returned from a holiday in Lanzarote, while we were there we booked into a Yurt for a couple of nights. SAMSUNG CSC

From Friday afternoon when we checked in to Sunday morning when we checked out I went offline! – This is a great place to do a phone detox. – More on this in a later post!

Lanzarote Retreats have an amazing portfolio of properties and an eco village, Finca De Arrieta where we stayed.

We arrived on the Friday afternoon and Self Checked in,  the key hanging in the door of the yurt. In the private garden of  our yurt was a modern kitchen area, in it was a welcome basket with tea, milk coffee & snacks.

SAMSUNG CSC

We soon unpacked our bag and had a wander around the site.

First into the community area which housed  an honesty fridge” where you need to be careful as its easy to strike up quite a tab when you’re not parting with money there and then!

There is a comfy floor cushion area great for having a go with the guitar that’s there.

Out side this is the shared pool. The pool is in the style of Cesar Manrique(An Artist and architect born in Lanzarote) It is solar heated and is a great size for kids to have a splash or to do a few lengths first thing in a morning.

We arrived in the heat of the day so head to the “honesty Shop” and grab a couple of ice lollies  to cool down.

Once the sun has gone down a little we explore the rest of the site. Grabbing a couple of carrots that I’ve been told to bring we head to feed the donkeys who I’m told may be pregnant. Near the donkeys are the chickens. there were no eggs for us that day but we did manage to get one on our last day.

There is only one thing to do after seeing the animals and that’s to test out the play park!

After working up an appetite on the play equipment we went back to the yurt and fire up our very own BBQ . While Daddy is on chef duty J&M take a nap in the Hammock .

For a treat after dinner we took a walk down the path to the beach with J&M’s new kites.

It’s soon dark, and we finally manage to put the kids in bed (everything was just too exciting so they didn’t want to go to bed) and hubby and I have a drink sat on the sun loungers (now Moon loungers) and we watch the stars. Up that end of the Island there is so little light pollution its great for stargazing We could even see mars!

The next morning we woke and had a lazy morning I went for a swim, the kids played in the shared covered day bed near by and hubby sat with his coffee on one of the sunloungers by the pool.

SAMSUNG CSC
20160715_215226_LLSdaddys day

In the evening we had a drive out but J&M were both tired and grumpy so we headed back to a nearby restaurant and while dinner arrived they had a little play on the beach – The restaurant is just a little walk from the Finca De Arrietta.

SAMSUNG CSC

That night we did a little more star-gazing.

The next day I woke early before the sun had risen from the sea and I spotted a  lady we had made friends with the day before. We watched the sunrise and drank a cuppa before anyone else even knew it was a new day.

Soon after another swim it was time to check out and pay for all of the things we had put on our tab from the honesty shop!

I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a quality Glamping experience – The accommodation was comfy and clean & the whole site feels safe for my children to play.

The pool & community areas were amazing and they were cleaned every day!

We will definitely be going again to Finca De Arrieta. It was great to just switch off for a while. The kids loved the play park and feeding the Donkeys, We all enjoyed looking if the chickens had laid any eggs!

Thoughts for a friend!

You know when you’ve just posted about how much your little ones are pissing you off then you find out that an old friends child is currently lying in a hospital bed her mother terrified of what is happening to her child.

I will continue to post about my children annoying me. And how proud I am of them, as that is life.

However just for today this post is for my friends

I want to take time for them to know even though I’ve not seen them or phoned them every day. I think about them a lot! They were a rock when I needed one. And they have looked after my husband and I on several occasions.

I don’t pray, however I will be sending positive thoughts for them.

In this world that seems to be full of badness please send your good thoughts for my friend & her child.

Please take a min when your children are annoying you and remember how lucky you are that they are there.

I will be hugging my children a little more tightly today.

Transition Day!

This morning I woke up full of excitement for my children. They have transition day. A day where they go up from nursery to the reception class they will be in come September.

I took them into school as usual and we did the morning activity as usual.

Then suddenly a wave of anxiety hit me and i could feel my eyes well up.

Whats wrong I though to myself, while I was trying to help J with his letter formations.

IMG_9657

“They are growing up” I over heard one mum comment to another.

That’s it I thought they are growing up. I felt a little overwhelmed like the fact they are going to reception has just sneaked up on me!

My two know their new teacher and already feel comfortable with her. so I know they will be fine!

They have been doing full days at nursery for sometime to so I already know what to fill my time with.

It’s just the fact they are growing every single day. Sometimes  I see it, but sometimes it sneaks up on me like today.

Good Luck all to all the mums having transition days / weeks – Its hard knowing our children are growing up but you know we get to watch them grow and that’s an amazing gift!

My Precious Moments #TasteLikeThisFeels

So Channel Mum & Cadbury are running a competition with a chance to win a one of 5 digital cameras and a box of Cadbury’s dairy buttons.

IMG_8888

Here is my top precious moments.

  1. I love having a snuggle in bed with my twins and then when they have fell asleep the feeling I get when I pick them up to move them and they put their arms around me tightly and snuggle in. Then I lay them in their own bed and they say Thank you Mummy I love you.
  2. Being lost in my children’s world even if only for the moment. Getting down to their level and playing with toys or doing some drawing. I totally forget the to do list and my worries and we just play. I follow their imagination and they help me regain mine! I just love it.IMG_8675
  3. I have recently joined you tube and one of the reasons is my stepson – Although we don’t have as many special moments we have found something that is a common ground for us! He is a teenager so often doesn’t interact with anyone let alone me! So If I ask him for help with something to do with cameras or YouTube related it often gives us a shared moment!
  4. Our twins are constantly growing up and witnessing a proud moment with my husband really connects us! It can be that Jake has been given an award at school or that Melody has just learnt to spell a couple of words. I Know I look at him and he looks at me with pride. Proud that we made those children together!
  5. Finally we have a brilliant group of friends that we only met after we had our children so our friendship is only 3 years old. However in this time we have shared  many moments together from us girls all going camping together to watching all four of our children playing together without squabbling!

These moments I’ve mentioned above often hit me by surprise and bring me to tears! Other times they don’t register until afterwards.

They are moments that build who we are as a family and moments that I hope my children will remember fondly.

They are definitely moments I want to treasure forever – Children don’t stay that way long and we have to make the most of these precious moments because before too long we wont be able to pick up our sleeping child from our bed and I’m sure they wont hug as tightly.
