Blogging, Goals, Planning

Goals & plans.

So it’s that time of the year.

The first day of the year.

Resolutions and goals  have been made and people all over are signing up to gym memberships they will only use once.

There are people throwing Ciggys in the bin only to fish them back out later when the kids are doing their heads in. The alcohol has been poured down the sink. All apart from that trifle sherry at the back of the cupboard that you know you’ll regret drinking later.

I this year am doing away with resolutions and sticking to my goals list.

Work goals

I would love to call my blogging & vlogging my work  so one of my goals is to be more disciplined with my blog. Connect and contact more brands & companies for opportunities.

Volunteering

I volunteer at the theatre and I love it. I love the buzz of working back stage on a show night but as a mum of two small children and a wife to a geek who often works away it’s not really an option to make this my career. So whenever I have the opportunity I am going to continue volunteering at my local theatre.

Health

The past few years I have let my health slip. It’s hard to consentrate on yourself and look after two tiny humans at the same time. So this year I’m making it a priority. This is not just my physical health but most importantly for me my mental health.

Family

I would like to develop my relationships with my family not just as mother & child/ren but as a wife & stepmum and as a daughter to my mum.

Me

Ive mentioned my mental health above but I think al good portion of this can be lack of me time. I need to get better at giving my self breaks not just from being mum, wife but from social media & screens. I need to start giving myself time to craft or meditate.

Money
The past year we have lived pay packet to pay packet. Often worring if we had enough at the end of he month. This year I need to get better at budgeting and finding deals living a little more frugally.

Clutter free

I often blame the fact that we are a house where 5 year old twins live on all the clutter in the house. This year I need to get rid of some of the clutter. It’s not good for anyone’s mental health. It’s not good for the children who have some much stuff they don’t know what to play with.
So that’s my goals for the year. What are yours? Do you make resolutions?

Hit that follow button to see how I get on with all of these goals.

I will also be making videos on out some of my goals during January over on my YouTube channel. So head over there too and hit subscribe.

See you next time.

“House Love” – Kitchen / Utility Mood Board – With VELUX Blinds

We bought our house along with a business from my my Laws, It was very much a house to work from rather than a home that I fell in love with.

My husband has lived there since he was a boy and worked here for the family business when he grew up!

When we moved in we started making it ours straight away by updating the kitchen but after 10 years (a  business that’s now closed, two rabbits that have come and gone, two dogs that have come and gone and now two children that have come and… No wait they are still here and are not going anywhere for at least another 14 years probably.) we are still trying updating.

Recently we have installed a downstairs bathroom and the next project will be replacing a tired conservatory that is on its last legs. We use this area as a walk through but also a utility area.

When My In laws moved in over 20 years ago the conservatory as is now was and old bus shelter that was put up as a make do!

I have been thinking of ways to make this space a little more usable and a nicer place to enter. Although its our back door its where everyone seems to come to!

I love the idea of having roof windows as you can see its just a wooden roof at the moment.

I used to live in a house in Whitby and my bedroom and landing had roof windows Like the ones from VELUX.
I loved them It gave a lot more light into what could have been quite a dull room!

Maybe built in appliances to match my kitchen that leads off from my conservatory.
Then It would obviously need some finishing touches.
Plants, fresh flowers a couple of pictures hanging some blinds for the windows.
Are you still with me I started day dream a little then sorry!

I have took to Pinterest to give me a little inspiration for my new project and come up with a mood board of sorts to get me started!

Days Out, Parenting 101, Planning, Travel, Travel with Twins

Traveling with Twins – In Flight.

SAMSUNG CSC

Today I am back with another Traveling with Twins post for you following on from my at the airport this how to make sure your flight goes smoothly.

Our twins first flight was just before their first birthday since then we have been lucky enough to travel at least twice a year.

I know sitting in a confined tin can with any amount of children can seem like a daunting prospect but it doesn’t have to be.

I have even managed to take J & M on my own on a couple of occasions,

So here is what I do to try and beat the cabin fever.

Toileting

  • Make sure you use the toilet before boarding the plane. – even if they insist they don’t need it I still make my two try you could be a long time with seat belts on!
  • Sometimes if the kids are desperate the cabin crew will let you use the toilet before take off!
  • Make sure you have a spare set of clothes just incase they can’t hold it in.
  • Now I’ve been in a situation where I need the loo and I have two children with me – My advice is If they are happy in their seat leave them. They can’t go anywhere. And there isn’t a lot they can damage in their seat.
  • Otherwise you could take them up to the toilet with you however there isn’t a lot of room for three in those toilets. – Cabin crew may talk to your little ones while you go to the loo. All you have to do is ask.

Activities

  • We pack the electronic nanny with us in our hand luggage but remember you will need them in flight mode so download what you can beforehand.
  • Make sure you have kid’s headphones – you don’t want to be on a 4 & half hour flight with peppa pig on a loop in your ear! Kids headphone will often have limited volume too so no need to worry about little ears being damaged
  • Pack a new thing – a magazine, small toy, coloring book. – It doesn’t have to be expensive.
  • I once packed a lucky bag – The excitement of something new and not knowing what is in the bag was enough to keep them busy for a while!

 Reverse the role.

  • Kids love a bit of responsibility I tell mine to let me know when the seatbelt sign is off. This doesn’t always work they still ask for the tray table down or their bag but I get them to keep an eye on the light and tell me when its gone off!
  • While the cabin crew are doing their safety spiel I get the kids to watch if they are old enough and then let me know what to do with life jacket, and how to put on my seatbelt!

I’m Hungry

  • So there is often a trolley of snacks up and down the aisle, on our journey of 4.5 hrs we see the snack bar three times! It can cost a small fortune.
  • Pack some snacks in the kids hang luggage – fruit, popcorn, juice, crisps, even a sandwich!
  • Chose one thing off the menu and don’t veer off.
  • If you only have a short trip eat before you travel.

Getting off

Wait until the end – If you get out of your seat first your going to be holding people up behind you and if you have more than one child your more likely to get split up due to everyone trying to rush off

Take off  & Landing

  • To prevent ears popping and hurting little ones make sure they have some sweets or a drink they can have while taking off and landing
  • For babies I recommend their dummy or feeding them the sucking will relies the pressure in the ears and sooth them during this time.SAMSUNG CSC

So they are my tips for the flight, can you think of any more?

If you have a great tip leave a comment below and don’t forget to follow me on bloglovin of wordpress for more Traveling with twins.

Days Out, Planning, Tips, Travel, Travel with Twins

Traveling with Twins – Surviving the Airport. My Top Tips!

Hola,

I’m Currently at 32 thousand feet M has control of my IWatch and J is sat watching Miles on his Electronic Nanny.

We left home at 7am and its now 2.30 in the afternoon.

It has been a long day already and we don’t land until after 4pm.

We are not new to traveling however each time we learn a little more about the best way to reduce the stress on our travels.

  1. Arrive in good time – There is nothing worse than arriving late and in a panic. Plan your trip – Are there road works? Do you have enough petrol? Fill up the day before if you want that extra 10 mins in bed!
  2. Bring activities for the little ones! – Our twins are 4 and I let them pack their hand luggage themselves. I do advise checking it before you get to the airport however as liquids and sharp objects are frowned upon through security. I also make sure they have their favorite comfort be that a teddy, a dummy for smaller ones or a blanket.
  3. Charge those Electronic nannies –We were early for our check in this morning (I know Un heard of!) J & M were able to

entertain themselves with their Tablets & toys.

  4. Toilet stops – While Hubby cued with the suitcases I took J & M off to the toilet even if they say they don’t need it right then I tend to bribe them with a sticker if it means I’m not halfway through security with “mummy I need a wee, Mummy I’m gonna wee, Mummy I’ve wee’d” in my ear.
  5. Wheel your own! – Last time we were away I let My two pick their own wheeled cabin bags. This way they are more likely to carry their own stuff! – It makes them feel grown up and save me or Daddy carrying a thousand bags!SAMSUNG CSC
  6. Remove shoes, coats, etc. – when going through security You need to remove shoes if they have a substantial sole or if your kids are like mine and they have lights in their shoes they obviously have a battery in so they will need to come off too.
  7. Fold pushchairs- Babies should be removed from pushchairs and pushchairs folded and put through the scanner. This cam mean you need to empty it of blankets toys etc.– Yes you can take them to the aircraft door on most flights check your airline if unsure!
  8. Book the lounge. – It’s not as crowded there is complementry WiFi and the food and drinks are included. Sometimes you can get a good deal on the lounge if you are booking car parking – Ours came with the price of the car park this time round.
  9. Snacks – I put a couple of snacks in our hand luggage. airport prices are not cheap! SAMSUNG CSC
  10. Did I mention Toilet stops?
  11. Don’t rush to the gate – Normally by the time you’re on your way to the gate you have already been given your seat number so why rush. Those that board first are on the plane longer on the ground meaning more chance your little ones are going to get board or need a wee!

Right Seatbelt lights on M is now asleep as is daddy and J is not far behind – Come on kiddos were landing.

Confessions from a Mum on the Edge

I don’t know how to break it to you but …

41d7fbcedac93918cb52cd2262c4298c

Wait go get a cuppa and a snack…

Done?

Good.

Here goes…..

I am so lost and overwhelmed by this parenting / housewifing job that I have sought the help of a Mummy Life Coach.

Yep there I said it.

My home is not a home – it’s a cluttered mess of kids’ toys, shoes, clothes, bits of paper, and just generally too much stuff.

I’m so unorganized I never manage to finish my to do list.

I shout! A lot!

I have no inner peace no matter how many “Me time” moments I give myself (maybe I give my self too many and that’s why I never finish anything).

Anyway, I digress

As I said, I am having help from a Mummy Life Coach who says she can turn me from shouty mum to calm mum. A better version of myself!

I have only had her a week but my first task was to write down my perfect average day.

So a general school run day but one that’s the best it can be. How it makes me feel. What I’ve done to make it so.

I have to tell you that I started writing it today and ended up stressed that I couldn’t fit everything I wanted to into my day.

I think I’ve slumped that far into my rut that this it is going to be hard to get out!

After 4 attempts and 2 emails to my Coach I managed it!

The perfect average day task is meant to empower you and get you excited that in a years’ time it will be your perfect average day for real. You are meant to be able to feel the feelings of a years’ time and be able to transport yourself there almost.

I think most of us are guilty of carving out a groove in our life and then getting stuck in it. So much so even if we are not loving life, we either wouldn’t know were to start or fear what would happen if we made a change.

However, I have got to get out of my groove otherwise something is going to snap! Be that my sanity (already teetering on the edge) or my husband’s (again on the edge)!

0459b89c3fb17498d0bd34149b8d6e01

So my average day includes

  • Getting up early
  • Being organized
  • Making time for yoga, swimming, running
  • Preparing healthy meals and snacks
  • Spending more time as a family
  • Getting us all to pitch in with household chores
  • Spending time with friends
  • Working from home, earning a small income from my job

This sounds like a simple plan when written down – it’s just finding out which bits I need to tackle in order to get there.

What would be in you average day?

Would you seek guidance from a coach?

Have you already? Can you give me any advice?

See you all soon

Nina
