12 Weeks to Christmas – Surviving The Christmas Market

Lincoln Christmas Market is one of the Biggest Christmas Markets in Europe. In just under two weeks I will be joining the 250,000 + visitors soaking up the festive feel.

But heading to a festive market especially with anxiety can be a daunting prospect!

Here are a few things to help me survive my day out!

  • Travel – How am I going to get there? Make sure your not already stressed from taking a wrong turn or because your running late for a train. If its a big Christmas Market be aware that some roads may be closed
  • Parking – Is there a park and ride? DO you have change for the meter?
  • Clothing – Make sure you have suitable clothing & footwear. There will be alot of walking and you will no doubt have lots of bags to carry. You dont want to get to hot!
  • Have your Christmas list with you! That way you know who your buying for and roughly what you want to get
  • Get a shopping list too – Are there some things you would like to purchase on the day? A snow globe, some christmas potpourri maybe?
  • Stick to your budget! – If you have a budget for the day dont go over it! Do you really need another candle holder?
  • Make stops throughout the day for food & Drink – Don’t just fill up on samples and Glühwein Make sure you hydrate with water or a cuppa!

This is the first year I’ve been to the market since I was a child and I’m really looking forward to it!

Have you been? What stalls can you recommend I visit?

Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube Channel As I will be Vlogging through December! So you will be able to see how I get on at the Market!

12 Weeks to Christmas – Days Out!

Good Evening,

It’s Sunday which means its time for another Christmas Post

Today Is a list of Christmas themed days out that will get you in a festive mood.

img_0289-2

  • Nene Valley Railway – Santa Special  – We went to this a couple of years ago and have booked it again this year! Before you board the train you visit santa and get a gift. Once the train arrives its time to board.  On the trip santa visits all the carriages and asks what the children want for Christmas. There are elves that give out sweets to all the children. There are drinks on board for the adults too!
  • Hyde Park Winter Wonderland  – I keep seeing this advertised and think it would be an amazing day out for us all.
  • Lincolnshire Festive Food & Gift Fair – I’ve just booked my tickets to this. It looks like a great day for the whole family. New this year is santas workshop which includes christmas story telling craft activities and a visit from santa. There is also stalls for mummy to look around. lots of food to sample as well as the Lincolnshire Kitchen where there will be demonstrations to give us inspiration for the festive period.
  • Santa, Elves and Sleigh Bells at Tropical Butterfly House From December 17th – Christmas eve there will be a magical sleigh ride through the woods as well as a nativity scene and crafts to do. Also throughout December they are hosting Festive Afternoon Tea’s – This has to be pre booked so I best get that done!
  • Lincoln Christmas Market  – The first weekend of December is one of the  biggest festive markets in the country. I think this will be a day out with the girls rather than with the family. It can get very busy and there is a lot of walking to do! So a day out while the kids are at school I think!
  • Stockeld Park The Christmas Adventure – We went here with my step son years ago. There is nordic skiing through the woods, with displays all around, A festive maze, An ice rink and a visit from the big man himself.
  • Sundown Adventureland Christmas Spectacular – This little theme park hosts an amazing christmas ride every year its such a magical ride for the kids and ends at Santa’s living room where you can tell him what you want on the big day and receive a gift. throughout the park are lots of rides suitable for little ones. There is also angry birds themed area.

I’m really looking forward to spending some quality days out with the kids since they started school full-time ive missed our weekly days out to different places.

Do you have a Festive days out post why not link it up below!

Cuppa Of The Week -River Hut Surbiton

This weeks cuppa of the week goes to The River Hut at Surbiton.

I arrived at Surbiton Station last week for my day at the Handmade fair and decided as it was a nice day I would walk to the Hotel.

When the Holiday Inn was in sight I spotted Thames Ditton Marina. There was a little cafe / Bar on the side of the Marina it looked busy and quite contemporary – I decided that’s where I was going to have dinner that night!

20160915_161400.jpg

Hubby finished work in central London and met me at the hotel. Then we headed out for Dinner.

We sat outside as it was a nice night!

Right on the riverside watching boats sail past.

We ordered dinner the staff spoke to us like we were friends, such a lovely vibe. I could have almost believed I was on holiday somewhere abroad.

SAMSUNG CSCWe ordered dinner and vowed we would go back the next day!

So now to my cuppa –

After my day at The Handmade Fair all I wanted was a cuppa! so we headed back to The River Hut!

It seemed there was a private party on and all the tables inside were reserved! One of the ladies who we had met the night before greeted us at the door. She asked if we had reserved and when we said no she said oh were booked up inside but you’re welcome to sit outside on the deck!

I really only wanted a cuppa so we ordered our tea & coffee and decided that we would also sample some cake.

We got talking to the lady who asked us where we had come from and what we were doing in London.20160916_193952 10.37.29.jpg

Then me and hubby sat with our cuppa’s and cake discussing the day and listening to some sea scouts rowing in the dark on the river.

SAMSUNG CSC

It felt like such a great place to have a bite to eat and the deserts were amazing!

If we are ever in that area again Id love to go back for one of the live music nights!

You can find The River Hut on Facebook and Twitter or for the website click here!

Mums Day Off Hotel Stay – Holiday Inn Kingston South.

Good Morning everyone.

Last week I headed out to London for Kirsties Handmade Fair at Hampton Court Palace. It’s quite a way to travel just for one day so as Hubby works in the centre of London we decided to book a hotel there.

So I searched through some nearby hotels through Booking.com and came across the Holiday Inn Kingston South – I have a fondness towards Holiday Inn as we actually got married in one at Doncaster – Warmsworth Hall.

So I booked two nights  at the riverside hotel.

I arrived around 2pm and checked in. The lady behind the reception was quite helpful and gave me my room key told me that Breakfast was included with my booking. breakfast between 6.30am and 9.30am – Great for me as I needed to be up and out by 9am for the Handmade Fair.

SAMSUNG CSC

Anyway I head up the lift to my room and swipe my card The executive room is great king sized bed – Balcony overlooking the river – Although the river is across a busy road. I was so tired and hot from my journey down I hung up my clothes and jumped in the shower Then I sat on the balcony with a cuppa, some complementary snacks and I did a little blogging  work (its free WiFi) while I waited for my hubby to arrive from work!

A side note – The WiFi is free and seemed quite good on the Thursday afternoon while I was blogging however by the time we had got back from dinner although the signal was fair the WiFi seemed unreliable and I ended up tethering my 3G phone to my laptop to use it!

IMG_0920.JPG

That evening I had used all the teabags and I really needed a cuppa before bed so we came in from dinner and asked at reception – They gave me more milk and more tea bags!

We watched a bit of TV before we fell to sleep

The next morning came with a thunder-storm. If I hadn’t been going to see Kirstie that morning I would have stayed in bed most of the morning So much more comfy than our bed at home. and no one demanding Peppa pig or paw patrol on!   We headed down to breakfast – Buffet style with fruit & yogurt, cereal, porridge or full cooked english.

We were There for a Total of 2 nights and we had breakfast both mornings for this we paid £258

Days Out, Wicked Wednesday

Wicked Wednesday – Is It worth The effort?

On Sunday we went to the new splash pool in our town.

It was a treat for the kids. We arrived and They were really excited. I put on thier swimming gear and covered them in sunscreen  and off they went.

I was just starting to relax and praise myself for surprising my munchkins with this treat when……

(Insert Whiney voice) “Mummy I don’t want to stay here” “mummy I’m cold” ” I want an ice cream”

Aghhhh we had been there less than 10 mins.

You know when you think something is a good idea but getting out of the house was stressful enough. Then you arrive and think it was all worth it. Well yeh for 5 mins maybe.

I got them dressed again they had a little play on the dry play park then we headed for the icecream van. Then to the shop to pick up a little picnic.

After this they were ready to go back in the splash area.

Do you know what they loved it this time around.

Maybe it was worth it after all.

Family Date Night – Roof Top Starlight Cinema – Lanzarote

Hi All,

A couple of months ago I spotted on someone’s Facebook page an article about a new roof top cinema in Lanzarote where we would be going on holiday a few weeks later. It looked amazing, with films such as Mama Mia, Enchanted & the new die-hard film.

Last week was our holiday and we headed to Puerto Del Carmen and the shopping Centre – Biosphere to have a look at the Cinema,

We booked tickets for a week’s time to see Enchanted which was the only film really suited to J & M, While we were there we had an ice-cream just outside the cinema area. Where you can sit and have a drink & snack either in the day or before you film. There is also a 6D Cinema experience at the rooftop. Although we didn’t go this time we have been to another one on the island.

For me & Hubby we booked a deal where you get entry, popcorn and a drink for just 20euro the popcorn came in quite a big tub so we had one tub and J & M had the other.

20160714_160219_2daddys day.jpg

On the day we arrived early to get a good seat, it was a good job we did as it soon got busy! The seating area is at the top of the shopping center with views over Puerto Del Carmen and out towards the sea.

SAMSUNG CSC

As we were early we had a bit of food from the Starcaf before the film. There are Panini’s, cocktails, beer, sweets, cakes and of course popcorn. I had a cheese & Ham croissant. Which was delicious.  There is even a service button on the tables so that you can order drinks and snacks throughout the film. M kept pressing ours by accident.

SAMSUNG CSC

Soon after the sun had set headphones were handed around enabling you to listen in English or Spanish.

The film then started and J & M snuggled down with the blanket and cushion that are provided on each seat.

The film ended and we J had fell asleep & M was about to so we scooped them up and as we left they were given a balloon each.

I loved our Family date night at the Starlight Cinema and I’m looking forward to our next trip to Lanzarote So that we can go again.

If you are visiting Lanzarote anytime soon I would recommend an evening at the rooftop Cinema.

You can find details of it here.
